Thattaipayaru Sundal / Cowpea Sundal / Karamani Sundal -தட்டைப் பயறு சுண்டல்

cowpea - 100 gm
oil - 2 tsp
urad dal & mustard - 1 tsp
dried red chilli -  2
curry leaves - few
chopped onion ( small )- 1 ( optional)
asafoetida - big pinch
grated coconut - 2 tbsp
salt - to taste.

Serves 3
Steps to follow:

 Rinse thoruoghly and soak cowpea for at least 6-8 hours and  add enough water and salt,  pressure cook for 4 whistles.
Drain the water and keep aside.

Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard and urad dal  and curry leaves, when it splutters add  red chilli and chopped onion,saute well, add asafoetida, then add grated coconut and give a quick stir and add cooked cowpea. Mix well and serve in individual bowls.
