Spinach Dal :
spinach - one bunch
moong dal - half cup
onion big - 1
garlic cloves - 5
turmeric powder - quarter tsp
cumin powder - quarter -half tsp
cumin seeds - half tsp
urad dal - 1 tsp
dried red chilli - 2
oil - 1 tbsp
grated coconut - 2 tbsp (optional)
salt - to taste.
Cut the stems of spinach and take only the leaves,wash thoroughly to clean up the sand and drain it.Chop the spinach leaves nicely and also chop the onion and garlic cloves and soak the moong dal keep aside.
In a vessel add soaked moong dal, turmeric powder,cumin powder,chopped half onion,chopped garlic cloves and a cup of water. Cook well.
Then add the spinach and mix well.Let it cook for few minutes until soft.
Add little salt to the cooked spinach dal.You can add fine grated coconut at this stage and mix well.
Heat oil in a pan add urad dal, cumin seeds,red chillies and onion.Stir for a minute just beginning to brown.
Add the tempering to the cooked spinach dal.
