Moringa Leaves Salan / Murungai Keerai Salna

The Moringa/Drumstick tree Known as the Tree of Life, it contains more than 90 nutrients including 40 powerful antioxidants. In fact, practically every part of the Moringa plant contains important minerals and are a good source of protein, vitamins, beta-carotene, amino acids, and various phenolics.

moringa leaves - 2cup
chopped small onions - 2 tbsp
chopped garlic cloves - 1tbsp
cumin powder - half -1 tsp
rice washed water ( arisi kazhani) - 2cups
salt - to taste

for ground paste:
grated coconut - 3 tbsp
cashew nuts - 3
raw rice - 2 tsp

for the tempering:
oil - 1 tbsp
cumin seeds - half tsp
urad dal - 1tsp
dried red chilli - 2

Steps to follow:

Strip the moringa leaves from the stem.

Wash the leaves thoroughly and drain it.

Heat oil in a clay pot add cumin seeds,urid dal,red chillies when it splutters add rice washed water(kazhani).when it brings to boil add moringa leaves,chopped garlic, chopped small onion and cumin powder.Mix well.
Simmer the stove and let it cook for five minutes. Add salt to taste.

Dry roast the rice. Then add the roasted rice, cashews and grated coconut into the mixie jar and paste it finely.

Then add the coconut paste to the cooked moringa leaves.

Let it cook in a medium flame for 3 -5 minutes. Switch off the stove.
Now the healthy delicious Moringa leaves Salan is ready to serve.

Serve with hot rice or serve like a soup.

Hi Asiya, I usually prepare Murungai keerai kootu only... This saalna is new to me. My husb likes murungai keerai very much. So next time I get some here, I'm going to try ur saalna. Thank you for providing all those beneficial info and linking it with Healthy Morsels - Pregnancy :)

Mymoon, I tried with palak ,awesome taste, but please not try with araikeerai,araikeerai masiyal,kadaisal,poriyal thaan nalla irukkum.
